The public is invited to attend this year’s event at 3 p.m. on May 15 at Mohave Crossing Event Center.Nearly 300 residents of Mohave County and adjacent communities will cross the platform to receive their honors in the 38th Commencement of Mohave Community College students on May 15. Those 300 are among more than 700 who make up MCC’s “Class of 2009.”

Since the college’s inception in 1971, 5,921 people have earned higher education credentials from MCC. The Class of 2009 commencement will bring that number to 6,622.

The ceremony is set for 3 p.m. that Friday at the Mohave Crossing Event Center in Mohave Valley - the largest indoor venue available for the event. This will be the 11th commencement in the Bullhead City area. It has also taken place in Kingman 11 times and in Lake Havasu City 16 times.

“MCC is one college with four physical campuses and our Distance Education virtual campus,” said MCC Chancellor Michael Kearns. “Having one ceremony brings our students, faculty and employees together in a grand event that is the pinnacle of the work we have all done throughout the year.”

In addition to the students who are earning certificates of proficiency and associate degrees from the college, approximately 50 people who have successfully completed the Certificate of General Educational Development (GED) through MCC will participate in the ceremony. Those 50 are among the 229 who earned the GED within the last year at MCC.

The public is invited to attend the commencement, along with the families and friends of this year’s graduates. There is no charge and no RSVP or reservations are required. The Mohave Crossing Event Center can be reached by turning west on Aztec Road off Highway 95 in Mohave Valley. Attendees are asked to be there by 2:45 p.m.
