CE Department offers ICC plumbing class to prepare students for inspection jobs
11th January 2008
The Continuing Education Department at Mohave Community College will offer its preparatory class for the International Code Compliance (ICC) plumbing exam beginning Jan. 22.
The 64-hour class will run Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 6 to 9 p.m. on MCC’s Henry Campus - Bullhead City. It will address plumbing layout at job sites, locating pertinent code sections, the language of the code book, vents, traps, gas and water heaters and water supply and distribution.
MCC offers a four-part ICC program that prepares the student to test for certification as a building inspector, a building permit technician, a building code enforcer or a plans review examiner. This preparatory class is part of the building inspector program.
“All four of these jobs are in high demand throughout Mohave County, the United States and even internationally,” MCC Chancellor Michael Kearns said. “We have already trained inspectors who have found jobs within Mohave County as well as in other parts of Arizona, California, Nevada and even Louisiana.”
Lee Creiglow, a class facilitator and City of Bullhead City building official, said, “We focus on teaching the codes and soft skills, such as attitude and how governments work. We also have field trips so the students see what inspectors do - that helps them get ahead of the game and to interview better for jobs as well as seeing firsthand what the standards are.”
Creiglow said the ICC job web site averages more than 300 job listings per month.
“The demand is there,” he said. “In fact, there are four students who took the class, passed the test and are now working as building inspectors in Louisiana. These certifications aren’t confined to Mohave County or Arizona or even the United States. If they want to pursue certification, they can go anywhere in the world since it is an international code compliance test.”
Cost of the program is $400 payable in cash, check or credit card to the registration office on MCC’s Bullhead City campus.
