Medical Assistant program now offered at MCC North Mohave
10th December 2007
The North Mohave campus of Mohave Community College is now offering a Medical Assistant program, enabling students to take advantage of one of the hottest fields in today’s workplace.
The program trains students to assist physicians in the examination and treatment of patients, from newborns to senior citizens, as well as perform routine office tasks. Furthermore, it prepares students to take the Allied Health Professionals certification exam to become a registered medical assistant.
Within this career category there are a number of specialty areas including: Medical Assisting - General, Medical Assisting - Phlebotomy, Medical Assisting - Insurance Coding and Medical Assisting - Clinical.
“From working with medical professionals as they examine and treat patients to performing a wide range of essential office administration duties, our program is designed to prepare highly qualified medical assistants through clinical instruction, class lectures and practical experience in medical facilities,” said Michelle Willard, MCC medical assistant instructor, noting that students can earn their medical assisting certificate in as little as a year at MCC.
“Employers prefer to hire formally trained medical assistants who have passed a national examination indicating certain standards of competence. This is the kind of training and experience students receive through MCC’s Medical Assistant program,” Willard continued.
Medical assisting is projected to be one of the fastest growing careers through 2015, as the health services industry continues to expand and diversify, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Classes at MCC begin in late January and are offered in the evenings and on weekends to accommodate busy schedules. Interested individuals must be at least 18 years of age and have an appropriate score on the assessment test offered at MCC.
Financial aid is available.
