Perkins elected as delegate to national PTA group
10th June 2009
Carrie Perkins, a member of the physical therapist assistant faculty on the Lake Havasu City campus of Mohave Community College, has been elected as a Physical Therapist Assistant Caucus delegate at large in the House of Delegates for the American Physical Therapy Association.
Only five physical therapist assistants nationally are elected to the two-year national office. They represent all physical therapist assistants when the House of Delegates convenes to vote. The House of Delegates is the highest decision-making body within the APTA, which is the umbrella group of the PTA Caucus.
In January 2009, Perkins was appointed as the PTA Caucus representative from Arizona. The PTA Caucus represents the physical therapist assistants’ interests, needs and issues in APTA governance. The PTA Caucus includes the chief delegate, four delegates at large and 52 PTA Caucus representatives.
The five PTA Caucus delegates are charged with providing leadership for the PTA Caucus, and they speak on behalf of the PTA Caucus in the House of Delegates.
This is a great victory for Carrie, the program and MCC,” Rhonda Schnabl, MCC’s physical therapist assistant program director, said. “In only our second year, we have been fortunate to have the right people to bring national attention to the program.”
