Pharmacy Technology Assistant program sets open house

16th October 2008

The Pharmacy Technology Assistant program at Mohave Community College will hold an open house Tuesday for students interested in enrolling in the program.

The open house will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. in Room 903 of the Legacy Foundation Allied Health Building on the Henry Campus-Bullhead City, where the course is being taught.

Resident faculty member Carol Elledge, a student in the second semester of the program and other college personnel who can answer questions regarding the pharmacy tech program, course advising, admissions and financial aid will be available at the open house. The event will be held in the lab where classes are held, and attendees will be able to see the equipment used in some of the classes.

MCC began its program to help ease the shortage of certified pharmacy technology assistants in the tri-state area and nationally. As the number of older Americans grows, more and more prescriptions will need to be filled. Technicians are the individuals processing the vast majority of those orders.

Health care is one career area that remains stable even in tough economic times, and it is continuing to grow. Pharmacies seek to hire assistants who are nationally certified and Arizona licensed as pharmacy techs.

The associate of applied science degree in pharmacy technology assisting from MCC is accepted nationally.
