Recycle old electronics on Oct. 17

28th September 2009

On Oct. 17, MCC Computer Club members will be accepting old computers and electronics for recycling in the parking lot near the MCC computer labs in Kingman and Lake Havasu City from 8 a.m. to noon and in Bullhead City from 1 to 5 p.m., to help support club projects. If you are loaded down with old electronic equipment and don’t how to dispose of it, the Mohave Community College Computer Club (MC4) has an easy solution that will also benefit an MCC student club.

MC4 members and employees of SunGard Higher Education, MCC’s technology services provider, will take in scrap electronic equipment at the Kingman, Lake Havasu City and Bullhead City campuses on Saturday, Oct. 17. The scrap will be loaded onto trucks and taken to Westech Recycler of Phoenix. Westech plans to donate two cents per pound back to MC4, which will use the funds for club projects.

At their March event earlier this year, the club filled three trucks and had many calls after the event hoping for another opportunity to donate.

“This is our sixth semi-annual recycling drive and we are happy to provide this service for the community,” said Andra Goldberg, computer information systems faculty and co-advisor to MC4. “We appreciate the response from all three communities and hope to have great participation again this time.”

Equipment will be accepted in Lake Havasu City and Kingman, from 8 a.m. to noon on Oct. 17. The Henry Campus- Bullhead City chapter of MC4 will accept the electronics from 1 to 5 p.m. On all three campuses, the drop-off point is the parking lot adjacent to the Campus Computer Center (Building 500).

All types of computer-related equipment are welcome, including computers, monitors, printers and PC accessories. Small household appliances and televisions cannot be accepted.

All donations are tax deductible, and donors may obtain receipts.

For more information about the club or events, contact MC4 co-advisor Andra Goldberg at 692-3015 or e-mail her at agoldberg@mohave.edu.

The club is also planning the next LAN (local area network) gaming event for Halloween on Oct.31, beginning at 5 p.m. in the computer labs. This event is open to the public and will benefit the local food banks. Participants are encouraged to bring canned or other non-perishable food items.
