Scholarships awarded to four nursing students
13th November 2009
Four Mohave Community College nursing students are smiling today, thanks to the generosity of the Northwest Arizona Healthcare Foundation.
Jenny Jessup and Gina Silveira of Lake Havasu City, Lynn Ross from Hurricane, Utah, and Karin McEwan of St. George, Utah were each awarded a $2,000 scholarship to help cover their education and living expenses at MCC for 2009-2010. Each student has the opportunity to apply for a renewal of their scholarship for the next academic year as well.
The students were selected based on their grade point average, letters of recommendation and a personal statement about their education goals and nursing.
The Northwest Arizona Healthcare Foundation was formed a year ago to provide scholarships for students in health related fields. Initial funding for the Foundation came from the proceeds of the sale of the Silver Ridge nursing home, owned by Dr. John G. and Diana Lingenfelter, in Bullhead City.
The foundation is overseen by an independent Board of Directors. President is Susan Chan, Carol Hurst is vice president, Carol King is secretary and Paul McCormick is treasurer.
